I had been fiending to go riding since the end of last season, mostly because of the fact that I had only made it out 3 days last season (TERRIBLE!) and secondly due to all of the talk about throwing my bachelor<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R41-4i9ZQyI/AAAAAAAAAGM/JvpLbUXO_yc/s1600-h/DSC01360.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R41-4i9ZQyI/AAAAAAAAAGM/JvpLbUXO_yc/s200/DSC01360.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155916658331173666" border="0" /></a> party in Whistler, BC. All that said and the fact that my fiance Allyson was going to have our daughter in December (possibly while we were at Killington), I needed to make sure something happened ASAP. Amazingly we got a 10 person posse together, a great deal on a condo, courtesy of my Uncle, and score on the lift tickets! The crew was Karm, Vito, my brothers Chris and Anthony, Mike <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R41_bi9ZQzI/AAAAAAAAAGU/FrBRwvzk1U4/s1600-h/DSC01368.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R41_bi9ZQzI/AAAAAAAAAGU/FrBRwvzk1U4/s200/DSC01368.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155917259626595122" border="0" /></a>Macari, Sal Muff, Patty, Troy and his wifey, and myself.<br /><br />We got in around 1AM Saturday morning after a 7 1/2 drive that was supposed to be 5 1/2 hours. Quickly we sparked a blunt, drank a few brews, shot some pool and hit the sack with intentions of getting out to the mountain for 9AM.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R41_9C9ZQ0I/AAAAAAAAAGc/8yBBNDk_SrI/s1600-h/DSC01365.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R41_9C9ZQ0I/AAAAAAAAAGc/8yBBNDk_SrI/s200/DSC01365.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155917835152212802" border="0" /></a> We got up at about 9:30, ate breakfast at the Grand Hotel and gobbled down a nasty, expensive buffet and finally made it to the lift for 11. Strapping up at the top of the mountain in 14 degree weather is a feeling that cannot be described but one that I hope everyone can experience at some point in their life, it is beautiful to say the least.<br /><br />We made it through the day virtually unscathed. Afterwards we sparked a few blunts, drank a few brews, popped some percs, ate, checked in with Ally to make sure I didn't have to head back to <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R42AZS9ZQ1I/AAAAAAAAAGk/KbSCnKdtMe0/s1600-h/DSC01356.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R42AZS9ZQ1I/AAAAAAAAAGk/KbSCnKdtMe0/s200/DSC01356.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155918320483517266" border="0" /></a>meet her in the delivery room, and watched <span style="font-style: italic;">The Kingdom</span> (I give it 6 out of 10).<br /><br />After the catastrophe that was waking everyone up and getting to the mountain on Saturday I told everyone a little white lie (that we needed to check out of the condo by 9AM or we'd have to pay for an additional day)...and we still didn't get out until 9:30 again.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R42A8i9ZQ2I/AAAAAAAAAGs/HLP05sTRip0/s1600-h/DSC01392.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R42A8i9ZQ2I/AAAAAAAAAGs/HLP05sTRip0/s200/DSC01392.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155918926073906018" border="0" /></a> We hit <a href="http://www.killingtonguide.com/dining/peppers-restaurant.html">Peppers</a> for breakfast and some fresh squeezed OJ and enjoyed our food there. We finally got to the lift around 11:30. The temperature was about 29 degrees warmer than Saturday giving me hope that everyone would want to stay the entire day. I was wrong; after one run some of the guys started to call it a wrap, so I knew this was going to be an early day and was ready to get in as many runs as possible. Unfortunately I took a brutal fall early and began getting anxious to hit the road myself. In the end we got in about 6 runs on Sunday and a total or 20 for the weekend; not too bad.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R42Bfy9ZQ3I/AAAAAAAAAG0/hLmLibCKAgo/s1600-h/DSC01394.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/R42Bfy9ZQ3I/AAAAAAAAAG0/hLmLibCKAgo/s320/DSC01394.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155919531664294770" border="0" /></a>All-in-all the trip worked out well for everyone. The conditions were above average, we kept the expenses low , got some nice pics and no one got hurt...and Allyson didn't have the baby. Now almost two months and a baby girl later the itch is back again. Surprisingly only a few of the other guys went riding one other time since then so I think they'll have the urge to get out again soon too. Right now it's tentatively looking like early Feb so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some good snowfall in the next 3 weeks.<br /><br />Check out the rest of the pics on the <a href="http://gallery.mac.com/robstyles21#100009">web gallery</a>.<br /><br /><br />-StylesSpliff Committeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07670727430648481526noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7957478332331542406.post-1840054567400042652007-11-08T18:47:00.000-08:002008-01-15T18:48:22.902-08:00Romp<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.gamedip.com/gamesUpload/1171641761.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://www.gamedip.com/gamesUpload/1171641761.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;">For those of you who don't know about the Romp game featuring super-stud Jake, you ought to check this out. This game was a classic back in college for a few of the boys. Eventually it disappeared and ultimately fell into cult status. The object of the game is to get the main character, Jake, and his boys laid by making decisions in a variety of situations. After a failed attempt to go to the Pocono 500; numerous Sundays trying to watch but always losing interest after 15 minutes; my favorite radio host </span><a style="font-family: verdana;" href="http://www.btls.com/">Bubba the Love Sponge</a><span style="font-family:verdana;"> recapping each weekends races and interviewing </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">people in the industry, I had all but given up on trying to get into the phenomenon. Then one Friday a few weeks ago, our boy Karm was complaining about how Bubba goes into his rants about NASCAR and that it always forces him to change the channel; </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">well one thing lead to another </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">and we were buying tickets to the Dodge Dealers 400 at Dover International Speedway. I then</span><span style="font-family:verdana;"> picked my buddy Jerry's brain, </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">who happened to be a fan, about the rules, rented NASCAR 08 for XBOX360 and my interest had been renewed and I was set for race day Sunday September 23, 2007. I even found myself a driver to root for, #20 Tony Stewart (who I was able to get 7 to 1 odds on to win the race).</span><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center; font-family: verdana;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RvxsWw_xKqI/AAAAAAAAACc/ixZNwEikpAA/s1600-h/DSC01067.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RvxsWw_xKqI/AAAAAAAAACc/ixZNwEikpAA/s200/DSC01067.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5115082415151327906" border="0" /></a></div><span style="font-family:verdana;">The crew that we put tog</span><span style="font-family:verdana;">ether was Danny Flops, Karm, </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">and myself along with our boys from Jersey City, Traina, Omar and E.<br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RvxqzQ_xKnI/AAAAAAAAACM/zq_QuuhxlXg/s1600-h/DSC01089.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RvxqzQ_xKnI/AAAAAAAAACM/zq_QuuhxlXg/s200/DSC01089.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5115080705754344050" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RwmCfg_xK7I/AAAAAAAAAE0/8a823dmaBic/s1600-h/DSC01084.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RwmCfg_xK7I/AAAAAAAAAE0/8a823dmaBic/s320/DSC01084.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118765929428233138" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family:verdana;"><br />After tossing around a </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">couple of ideas consisting of staying in a hotel or camping, we decided to just hit the road at 7AM to embark on </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">our 2 1/2 hour </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">journey.</span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RwlimA_xK4I/AAAAAAAAAEc/A_y32WwTWS0/s1600-h/DSC01076.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RwlimA_xK4I/AAAAAAAAAEc/A_y32WwTWS0/s400/DSC01076.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118730856725293954" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/Rwli9A_xK5I/AAAAAAAAAEk/IGfox-kS8rg/s1600-h/DSC01079.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/Rwli9A_xK5I/AAAAAAAAAEk/IGfox-kS8rg/s400/DSC01079.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118731251862285202" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RwmB8Q_xK6I/AAAAAAAAAEs/M1vOXpYyWPs/s1600-h/DSC01080.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RwmB8Q_xK6I/AAAAAAAAAEs/M1vOXpYyWPs/s400/DSC01080.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118765323837844386" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family:verdana;"> </span><span style="font-family:verdana;"> </span><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;"><br />The plan was to tailgate for a few hours and then get in there for the "Gentleman start your engines" jumpoff...that didn't happen. We got to the stadium for 11AM and then sat in traffic for almost 2 hours as we tried to find a spot. When we finally got there we </span><span style="font-style: italic;font-family:verdana;" >really</span><span style="font-family:verdana;"> got to see what the hype was all about. There was one parking lot after another filled with trailers, tents, games, food and of course fans, it actually looked liked an enormous carnival was going on.</span><br /><br /><a style="font-family: verdana;" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/Rvxs5g_xKrI/AAAAAAAAACk/nsoXtL3j-D8/s1600-h/DSC01097.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/Rvxs5g_xKrI/AAAAAAAAACk/nsoXtL3j-D8/s200/DSC01097.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5115083012151782066" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family:verdana;">We finally parked about a mile away from the stadium at 1 o'clock and decided to chill for a bit, eat some burgers, do some boozing, etc. People have always told me that if you are within 5 miles of a race you can hear the roar of the engines. I promise you this is no myth.</span><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left; font-family: verdana;">At about 100 laps into the race we made our way over. As we actually got to the outside of the stadium you immediately realize that NASCAR is much more than just a sport, it is a culture. Linkin Park has been doing this tour annually since '02 with the primary focus on bringing fans and artist of both rock and hip-hop together. They also put a <span style="font-style: italic;">green</span> spin on it this year in that they donated $1 from each ticket to <a href="http://www.americanforests.org/">American Forests</a> and virtually used all bio diesel fuel tour buses to travel. Gotta give 'em some props for that!</span><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;"><br />This year's lineup had some up and coming artists kicking things off and had the more popular bands wrap things up. MLB 2K7 had a batting cage and a pitching cage that clocked your speed (I topped out at 58 mph and Ricky hit 55). Monster energy drinks had their own little section where they were giving out free cans of their beverages and Etnies had a mini skate/BMX park where a couple of guys were bustin' out some tricks, just to name a few. Some of the bands that had played already were signing autographs in tents that were filled with fans ranging from 7-65 in age. In addition to these activities <a href="http://www.mindlessselfindulgence.com/">MSI</a> was playing, and they were actually pretty good; I'd give them a C+.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RtdnLpOKbsI/AAAAAAAAAAM/0c39S-OgOLg/s1600-h/DSC00950.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/RtdnLpOKbsI/AAAAAAAAAAM/0c39S-OgOLg/s320/DSC00950.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5104662152389226178" border="0" /></a><br /><br />At about 4:20 <a href="http://www.julien-k.com/">Julien-K</a> got things started</span><span style="font-family:verdana;"> over on the main stage. The venue really started to fill in now, the music was getting a little harder and things were starting to liven up. I've been to a good </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">amount </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">of concerts in my life, but I've never had the </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">opportunity</span><span style="font-family:verdana;"> </span><span style="font-family:verdana;">to experience a</span><span style="font-family:verdana;"> </span><span style="font-family:verdana;"><span style="font-style: italic;">mosh pit</span></span><span style="font-family:verdana;"> <object height="350" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2Bn51sNr99s"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2Bn51sNr99s" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" height="350" width="425"></embed></object>and one was just getting started right before us and I have to say, it was quite fascinating. Don't get it twisted, I was not going to take part in the insanity, but from the perspective of an onlooker it was great entertainment. The fact that these guys can actually get their testosterone levels perked up to the max and start slamming/charging/swinging fists at one another without taking anything personally is truly amazing! Oh, and plenty of alcohol and whatever other toxins were involved as well. Just to give you an idea, this one dude built like an ox is moshing and out comes this kid, no older than a college freshman, and the big guy goes up to him and they're bumping each other and then he drops a closed fist right on the younger kid's grill, and the kid just kept going!?! Crazy! Aside from the Moshing, Taking Back Sunday was great, solid B!<br /><br />Traina and E finally got there around 7:30, we burned a quick one while <a href="http://www.mychemicalromance.com/">My Chemical Romance</a> was just coming out. I have to say, I had no clue what we were in for, but these guys were AWESOME! The pyrotechnics alone were ridiculous, but the performance was second only to the headliners. Frontman Gerard Way, <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/Rtd7wZOKbwI/AAAAAAAAAAs/GgbwU3OPQNc/s1600-h/DSC00976.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/Rtd7wZOKbwI/AAAAAAAAAAs/GgbwU3OPQNc/s320/DSC00976.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5104684773981974274" border="0" /></a>although a bit femme, was captivating with his glamorous look complete with feather boa and his powerful voice. "Helena" was great (the mosh pit really enjoyed this one) and "Welcome to the Black Parade" was a crowd favorite. The one thing that kind of bothered me about them, and maybe this is my <span style="font-style: italic;">fatherly instincts</span>, was that he dropped at least 30 "F-bombs". No other bands were throwing it around like him, it were completely unnecessary and he had to have known that there were a large amount of young kids in the audience. Just where we were standing there were no less than 6 moms with their children, like I said, maybe its just me, but it was a little awkward. All-in-all, they rocked, A!<br /><br />At about 9:30 Linkin Park hit the stage playing No More Sorrow while the place erupted and they didn't disappoint. They went on to play a great set consisting of an eclectic mix of their catalog including, "Crawling", "Somewhere I Belong", "Numb", "Bleed It Out" and an acoustic-esque version of "Pushing Me Away". Chester was absolutely amazing and I've gained an entirely new respect for his ability to sing and utilize his voice the way he does; this dude screams at the top of his lungs without breaking for a good 45-60 seconds, it actually hurts watching him do it. Mike Shinoda was impressive and much better than I expected. He showed some diversity when he played a few chords on the piano and broke out an acoustic guitar for a little ditty. The bottom line, these guys were off the charts and I'd strongly recommend even the faintest of a fans to check them out live. The music was sick and the effects were phenomenal. These guys are no joke and the overall experience was worth every penny. A+ for these guys and A+ for the concert as a whole!<br /><br />Styles<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/SAuqTZuuqyI/AAAAAAAAAHc/Nb-K-7y0Mh8/s1600-h/DSC01011A.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jHsgGDRjwT8/SAuqTZuuqyI/AAAAAAAAAHc/Nb-K-7y0Mh8/s320/DSC01011A.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191430245775747874" border="0" /></a><br /><br /></span>Spliff Committeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07670727430648481526noreply@blogger.com0
